Internet World Exhibition Bites Back at the Recession
- Published 05/8/2009
Press Release: London,
Internet World on 28-30 April bucked business trends and defied the recession by delivering a 26% increase in visitor numbers and 80% re-bookings for the 2010 event.

These impressive figures reinforce Internet World’s position as the largest event in Europe for online business and digital marketing solutions, and the premiere exhibition date in the calendar for marketing, agency, digital, media and IT professionals. And what’s more, the stats clearly show that in the current climate, online is where business spend is being focused.
“A great line up at Internet World 2009, really good variety of exhibitors and great networking. I’d definitely recommend it!”
Faith Evans, Head of Site, BT Business
“Really brilliant education sessions on offer at Internet World, and great best practice on display. I would recommend to peers and colleagues.”
Pippa Norris, Head of Digital Communications, British Army
Response from the suppliers who exhibited at the show was overwhelming, with many claiming to have had their best show ever, and visitors queuing to get onto the stands.
“We’ve been exhibiting at Internet World for years, and we’ve already rebooked for 2010. We have found a really high quality of visitors and our investment in this show has more than been worth it. It’s the perfect audience for us!”
Jonathan Obadia, Managing Director, Serverstream
“There was a high calibre of visitors and we met a lot of influential people, which exceeded our expectations. As an event, Internet World is the most important one for us.”
Imran Pervez, Events Marketing Manager, Rackspace
The free education sessions were extremely popular, demonstrating a thirst for the latest thought-leadership and case-study success stories from big brands including National Express, Orange, seatwave.com, British Red Cross, MSN, Barclaycard, The Daily Mirror, Alzheimer’s Society and more. 15,000 seats were filled during the 3 day seminar programme which comprised 6 themed seminar theatres covering mobile, online advertising, search & affiliate marketing; ecommerce; web 2.0, social media, usability, design & build; email, mobile marketing & analytics; and enterprise 2.0 & content management. A further 7,000 attended the 20-strong Keynote Programme which included leading industry figures and online business pioneers from global brands including: Porsche, Mars Drinks, Disney, John Lewis, Barclays, HMV, The Guardian, Virgin, Ogilvy and many more. To accommodate demand, all sessions were filmed and will be available online to all attendees.
This year also saw the launch of a number of new features including: the Future of Social Media Pavilion, and the Innovation Pavilion, plus the return of the popular Mobile Experience, and a re-invigorated VIP Scheme and Club Lounge for the most senior-level delegates, sponsored by Weboptimiser.
The showfloor presented a diverse range of digital marketing, ecommerce, hosting and content management solutions from industry leading suppliers in the clearly marked zones: all the essential components for running an online business, migrating a business online or promoting a business online. A record 80% of stand space was rebooked for the 2010 event, with all key stand positions snapped up onsite, unquestionably confirming Internet World’s position as the leading event in Europe for online business and digital marketing solutions.
“The generation of new leads was really excellent this year and we found a really high quality of visitors were attending. Internet World is the biggest and best show for this industry and we’ll be back next year.”
Jane Linton, Business Development Director, Imano
“This has been our third year at Internet World. The visitors here are armed with projects and we’ve had an excellent level of leads. Internet World is an integral part of our annual marketing strategy – on the whole a positive experience.”
Dominik Mills, MD, Auros
Internet World, together with its sister event TFM&A, which also achieved trend-bucking success in February 2009, has given renewed hope to the exhibition industry in these challenging times. The 2010 event takes place Tues 27 – Thurs 29 May at Earls Court 2.
