Introduction:

Doing Business in India

This book is about understanding various pitfalls while doing business in India.

India offers many opportunities for those who are brave enough to take risk and smart enough to avoid the pitfalls.

This practical book will create awareness about business environment in India and certainly help you in avoiding the cost of expensive mistakes.

This book is written by an Indian entrepreneur for Westerners who are doing business with Indians or are planning to do business in India.

The word Westerner or Western used in this book refers to people from the UK, Europe, Canada, Australia and US.

Most organization corporate executives are making their business calculations about Indian domestic market based on numbers i.e. 300 million middle class Indians and this book is written focussing on that assumed middle class Income group Indians though basic concept applies to others income groups as well.

Doing business in India requires a variety of new skills and sets of knowledge in comparison to that needed in the Western countries in order to be successful. The working culture and day to day management style are very different from the Western style which further leads to confusion.

Having worked for approximately 12 years in India as an entrepreneur, a guest professor to various MBA schools, a training consultant for The Times of India Group and 3 years in the UK, I can see various pitfalls which a Western businessman or a Western company would experience in India if they do not prepare in advance.

The purpose of this book is not to scare you but to make you more aware so you can take better & well informed decisions while doing business in India.

The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 is all about understanding The Indian mindset and part 2 covers various business sectors like Real estate, Retail, BPO, Education, etc.

I hope this book will give you the insight into the Indian psychology, their business environment and help you to avoid costly mistakes while doing business in India.
